Arney Road – Remuera
CCNZ Award Winner 2024 Residential
Significant slip repair following substantial storm damage in the 2023 Auckland Anniversary Weekend floods.
The weather events caused a large piece of land to slip away from the existing house and swimming pool, leaving the house foundations unsupported, and at risk of further damage from future weather events. The property was yellow stickered by Auckland Council.
The remediation scope of works to fix the slip involved:
- Installation of an in-ground piled wall with large 750mm diameter piles to 14m overall length,
- 1.2m x 1.2m concrete reinforced capping beam connecting the piles
- 7no. 32m long high-capacity multi-strand anchors through the capping beam
- A smaller piled wall with capping beam to re-support corner of swimming pool on the edge of the slip
- Final landscaping of the site, re-profiling the rest of the slip/site, installing coconut matting and hydro-seeding.
Being a residential site, the biggest challenge was access into the works area. Access around the house was limited and could only be accessed through a single car garage and down a 1.5m wide path around the existing structures. The slip face had left a steep profile, with a minimal working platform for any equipment. Groundfix designed and installed significant temporary works to create working platforms to access the works areas.
“From the start we found Groundfix proactive and helpful working through the challenges of the site. Before engaging them, other contractors had visited the site and attempted to offer a solution however all the other options would have required demolition to parts of the property or were requiring access via surrounding properties which was not a feasible option.
Groundfix engaged with the designers to tweak the pile and anchor design to suit the limitations of the site and provide a solution which used the existing access around the property, with no demolition or access via neighbouring properties needed.” Sparta Construction.
